Early morning before breakfast at 0500 hrs boat ride on the river Ganges. We rise before dawn and step gingerly in the boat as the boatman starts rowing the boat. We wait for the daily miracle to unfold, as the Sun appears triumphantly over the horizon. The sound of conches and temple bells add to the delicate pink fabric of dawn. The formerly hushed murmuring of ancient Sanskrit 'Shlokas' now rises, in one voice, to a crescendo of unparalleled piety and joy. We return to our hotel for breakfast. Later we drive to airport to board the flight for Kathmandu, capital of Nepal, situated on the southern slopes of the mighty Himalayas. The flight is magnificent as we view of the mighty Himalayan peaks. On arrival we assist you to check-in at our Hotel for overnight stay.

Dear Victor,

It has been five days since we arrived in India, and so far it has been absolutely wonderful. All the IVAT staff on the ground have taken very good care of us, in a professional and friendly manner.

I will outline the key aspects and comments/suggestions from our trip so far

  1. Delhi: The guide in Delhi was very knowledgeable and pleasant. Her decision to take us to lunch at the Lodi Gardens was perfect. That evening, we were extremely surprised and pleased with the very kind gesture of the dinner invitation to Bohkara. It was a pleasure to meet Mr. Kapoor, his wife and sister in law. Both the company and the food were very enjoyable, and we had a wonderful evening altogether.
  2. Kathmandu:  the Dwarika's hotel was above expectations, and both the guide and the driver did an excellent job. It was a shame that despite the very early wake-up and a long 2 hour wait at the domestic airport, the fog did not lift and we were not able to go on the Mountain Flight (we do, however, need a refund for the flight -- please let us know how this will be arranged).

We fully enjoyed the visit to Bhaktapur, and despite a long drive to the Mountain Resort for lunch, the view from the table was incredible. What was probably too much  for us (specially for the ones who had woken up at 5:00a.m.) was the trip to see Patan. The traffic was infernal and the situation with the street vendors/hagglers was uncomfortable and annoying -- they did not leave us in peace during the entire visit.

On the last day, we visited the old city, saw the Kumani, and ended the tour by seeing the largest stupa in the world (forgot the name). In our opinion, this is a must see place, and should be in every itinerary (also, wonderful for shopping -- with no hagglers!).

  1. Varanasi: The Nadesar Palace was simply amazing, and the special details made for Adela Batista's birthday were very appreciated (i.e. room upgrade, flowers and cake). The sunrise boat excursion was the highlight of the trip for many of us so far. We were then taken on a long and cumbersome walk through the old city streets to visit the Golden Temple -- again, too much stress between the hagglers, the cow poo and security checks. The hotel was a true oasis that we wished we had more time/days to enjoy.
  2. Khajuraho: upon arrival at the baggage claim, there was no one there to help us with the bags. I saw the Lalit Hotel desk, and identified myself hoping they would have been expecting us, but they had no idea who were where. They did, however, help with bags and offer to get us a taxi. Only when we collected all the suitcases and went outside, did we see the person with the IVAT sign waiting for us.

Please realize that our trip has been wonderful so far with the exception of the airport section. Obviously some things are beyond your control, such as the rigorous (and numerous) security checks, long lines, etc. We think it would be of invaluable help if you could have an agent who helps you clear the 'airport bureaucracy' much faster -- like a Fast Track or VIP treatment. The airport portion becomes an important one when you have people trying to cover a lot of cities in one trip, like us, and that would make the journey a much more pleasant and relaxing one.

I again want to reiterate how pleased we are with your services, and look forward to many more highlights in the days to come.

Kind regards,
